2026 Senior Portraits in Boulder Colorado!
Why Summer Senior Sessions Are Pure Magic: Embracing Blooms, Color, and Your True Self
Time to Bloom!

When most people think of senior photos, fall immediately comes to mind—and for good reason. Those golden aspens and cozy sweaters create stunning Colorado backdrops. But let me share a secret: summer senior sessions are absolutely magical, and here's why I chose summer for my own senior photos.
My Summer Senior Story
When it came time to plan my senior session, I knew immediately that summer was my season. While my friends were planning fall shoots with burgundy sweaters and boots, I was dreaming of sundresses, flower crowns, and that soft, dreamy light that only comes with long summer evenings.
You see, I've always been drawn to flowers. Summer represented everything I loved—growth, vibrancy, and that feeling of endless possibilities. Choosing summer for my senior photos wasn't just about pretty backgrounds; it was about capturing who I truly was at seventeen.

The Magic of Summer Light
Summer in Northern Colorado offers something truly special: those long, golden hours that photographers dream about. The sun doesn't set until after 8 PM, giving us extended time for that perfect, soft light that makes everyone look radiant.
Unlike the harsh midday sun, early morning and evening summer light is incredibly flattering. It creates a natural glow on your skin, makes your eyes sparkle, and adds warmth to every photo. There's something about summer light that just feels optimistic and full of life—perfect for capturing this exciting transition in your life.

A Rainbow of Natural Backdrops

Wildflower Paradise
Colorado summers explode with wildflowers. From the purple lupines in the foothills to the bright Indian paintbrush scattered across meadows, nature provides the most incredible natural backdrop. Imagine photos of you surrounded by fields of wildflowers, creating dreamy, ethereal images that look like they belong in a fairy tale.
Garden Glory
Summer is when local gardens are at their absolute peak. The Denver Botanic Gardens, Chautauqua Park's wildflower meadows, and even neighborhood gardens overflow with roses, sunflowers, lavender, and countless other blooms. These locations offer endless variety within a single session.
Vibrant Landscapes
Beyond flowers, summer brings lush green grass, full trees creating natural shade and texture, and those brilliant blue Colorado skies that make every photo pop. The landscape is alive and vibrant, creating dynamic backgrounds that feel fresh and energetic.
Fashion Freedom
Summer senior sessions open up so many outfit possibilities that other seasons don't allow:
Flowing Sundresses that catch the breeze and create movement in photos
Bright Colors that complement the natural vibrancy around you
Floral Prints that tie beautifully into natural settings
Light Fabrics that photograph beautifully in natural light
Flower bouquets and natural accessories that feel perfectly in season
The key is choosing outfits that reflect your personality while working harmoniously with summer's natural palette.
Tips for Summer Success
Timing is Everything
Early morning (6-8 AM) and evening (6-8 PM) offer the most flattering light and comfortable temperatures.
Stay Hydrated
Bring water for both you and your photographer. Summer sessions require staying comfortable and energized.
Embrace Movement
Summer photos often look best with natural movement—walking through flower fields, spinning in dresses, or laughing naturally.
Consider Hair and Makeup
Summer humidity can affect your look, so discuss touch-up strategies with your photographer and consider professional hair and makeup.
Capturing Your True Self
Here's what I learned from choosing summer for my senior photos: the season you choose should reflect who you are, not just what's popular. If you're someone who:
Lights up around flowers and nature
Loves bright, cheerful colors
Feels most yourself in sundresses and flowing fabrics
Has a bright, optimistic personality
Wants photos that feel joyful and energetic
Then summer might be your perfect season too!
